I just found this absolute GEM of a site, và I just wanted lớn share:Science-y Hair BlogIt’s quite old (first post dates 2011, & the most recent was in 2018). But it’s AMAZING. Basically, it’s written by this lady who’s an actual scientist (not a cosmetic one, but a lot of her knowledge overlaps), so she has a lot of in-depth knowledge on...well, everything. Idk if I’m alone in this, but I get super frustrated with how much pseuso-science there is surrounding hair care. There are a thousand natural gurus recommending a million products because "It’s so amazing! My hair feels so soft" & a ton of DIY concoctions that boil down lớn "this oil is so amazingggg guysss it really stimulates your scalp" and "this gel is great for moisturizing" & not much information on why and especially how these ingredients work. If you look for skincare advice online, you’ll easily find countless articles written by actual dermatologists with scientific expertise on the topic. But when you look for haircare advice, all you find are articles written by stylists or people selling hair products, or beauty & lifestyle bloggers, or hair gurus. Lượt thích "Trichologist" is nowhere as popular in everyday speech as "Dermatologist"..But this lady goes in. Like, microscopic evidence, conducting experiments, molecular level IN. There’s a lot of scientific terms in her posts which may turn off some of yall, but I think she breaks it down quite well. And all them weirdass chemical names in your fav co-wash or deep conditioner - she goes through them ALL. I’m reading her posts and for the first time I’m starting to lớn understand, like truly understand - what they’re there for và what they bởi vì Anyway I just feel lượt thích a big part of our hair journeys is trial-and-error, and it costs $$$ because you’ll try so many products that "just don’t work for you". Why? No one knows. When I tell yall it’s SO refreshing to lớn understand on a deeper scientific cấp độ why they don’t Anyway sorry for the long gushing post, I’ve just started going through her posts from the very beginning và I’ve already learned so freakin much!! Oh & she’s yt, but seems very inclusive of all textures in the conversation. I believe her hair is in the type 2 range.

Yup. It is (was) better than any natural hair guru-- save Green Beauty & Naturally High.EDIT: Wow, I never realized that. In fact, I assumed that she was Black. Either way, I agree. I have not seen any racialized lingo that would warrant her being an illegitimate source.

Yeah, I love that site. I think it was a pet project for her. Not sure she updates it anymore, but it is full of information that is useful for everyone without getting bogged down by hair types. From her site, I figured out which oils work best on my hair--this was clutch for my haircare.
